Dhamma Stop includes established Buddhist institutions and community-listed places awaiting confirmation.

What is included?

As of 24 September 2026, the directory contains 1,438 listings with 1,108 sourced map pins. 221 listings carry Needs review/confirmation. These are listing counts, not an independently verified census of unique, operating temples.

The affiliation-review tag is removed for established Buddhist listings, Buddhist institutional evidence, explicit Buddhist or Buddha names (including Chinese equivalents), and sourced Buddhist-temple classifications. Address, opening-hours, closure and possible duplicate notes remain separate. Other community-listed places retain the affiliation-review tag. Mixed Buddhist and Taoist practice is not grounds for exclusion. Thean Hou Temple is included with its official website and Wesak programme.

Every saved entry accounted for

The shared list has 1,112 entries and 1,112 distinct Maps IDs. The earlier name-only matching left many legitimate places out. Different Maps IDs can refer to one institution, but an unmatched entry is not evidence of a duplicate. Closure or removal of a Maps card does not prove that the organisation stopped operating.

“Already in directory” means that a saved entry links to its existing public page. “Added to directory” means it is now visible. Its label reflects the recorded Buddhist identity evidence. Explicitly identified campus facilities link to their parent centre. Each combined or excluded row has an individual explanation and its original Maps link. Ambiguous identities remain separate until confirmed.

Institutions and related facilities

Temples, monasteries, viharas, Buddhist societies, Dhamma schools, retreat venues and community organisations qualify. Standalone objects and commercial shops are not counted as centres. Related halls, gardens, schools and services remain recorded with their parent institutions. Six scenic, commercial or standalone-feature entries are retained in the audit rather than counted as centres. No row is discarded merely because its Maps card is closed, missing, generically categorised or Taoist-labelled.

• YBAM member directory: Buddhist organisation membership and contact information. Some addresses are for correspondence or youth sections.
• Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia: named member organisations and tradition context. Membership does not exclude involvement in other Buddhist traditions.
• Ti-Ratana official branch directory, branch websites and official FAQ: branch identities, hours, contacts and non-sectarian practice.
• BuddhaNet World Buddhist Directory — Malaysia: named organisations, addresses and tradition labels. Some contact details and addresses are historical; newer official information takes precedence.
• Malaysian Buddhist Directory — shared Google Maps list: 1,112 saved rows reviewed for matching names, categories, closure notices and duplicates. A saved-list count is not a count of currently operating temples.
• Ti-Ratana’s Selangor Buddhist directory: additional named institutions and addresses.
• Malaysian Buddhist Association directory: 240 historical institutional articles indexed across all linked state directory pages; exact distinctive Chinese names corroborate 19 listings. Historical entries do not establish current visiting arrangements.
• Other official temple websites and tourism-board pages, identified on the relevant listing.
• OpenStreetMap via Geofabrik: coordinates, public transport stops and highway junctions from the 21 September 2026 snapshot. Map tags are not used as proof of affiliation.

Visiting hours and traditions

Published hours link to their source and show when it was checked. Temple gates, office hours and scheduled activities are distinguished. Where hours are not supplied, contact the centre. “Not specified” means this directory does not have a supported tradition label; it does not mean the organisation’s Buddhist identity is in doubt.

Location format

All listings use State / territory → City / town → Area → Township / neighbourhood. City and town names describe the locality used in the address, not necessarily a municipal council boundary. A larger area is optional: for example, Taman Bukit Anggerik is in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur; Bandar Puteri is in Puchong, Selangor. Branch names and street names are not used as township names.

Location filters narrow as you choose a state, city or area. An unknown neighbourhood is left unassigned and remains searchable by the known location levels. Correspondence addresses and PO boxes do not establish a visiting location. The same normalisation runs for future imports.

Routes, transport and map accuracy

Driving, public transport and walking links open Google Maps journey planning. Nearby transport stops are within 2 km and junctions within 20 km, measured in a straight line. These distances do not establish a walking route, service timetable or suitable highway exit. Original township, highway and exit filters remain available; imported corridor suggestions should be checked in the route planner.

Map coordinates can mark a building centre rather than the entrance. Missing coordinates are never replaced with town-centre guesses. Listing an organisation does not mean that its premises are open for drop-in visits.

Corrections and reuse

Each listing links to its sources. For directory corrections, contact the project through Rain Lee’s website. Map corrections can be submitted to OpenStreetMap.

Privacy

“Near me” requests your location only when selected. Distances are calculated in your browser; the site does not store your location. Map tiles contact OpenStreetMap, and direction links contact Google Maps. Filter choices are saved in the URL for sharing.
